Comparative Accounting Theory
This is going to be an awesome course!
Not only do we get to talk about the theories used by FASB in setting GAAP, but
we also get to talk about the formal theories used by academics to study
accounting and its impact on the work around us.
Unfortunately, many practicing accountants
find this information to be boring or irrelevant. Hopefully this course
will show you just how relevant and interesting these theories and the resulting
research can be.
In addition to studying theories, we will
also look at the history of accounting, compare U.S. GAAP with international
GAAP, and spend some time talking about the future of the profession.
Most importantly, we are going to think
about accounting, not how to do it or how to apply it, but about accounting
itself. After all, if you are going to be an accountant, you'd better know
what it is all about.
