Economics Major: Objective 2

Objectives Economics Major ] 1 ] [ 2 ] 3 ] 4 ]

 Why Study Economics?
The main reason for studying economics is that it is important, interesting, useful, fun, and gives life skills even if you don’t major in it. People talk about economics at the dinner table, in bars, waiting for the bus, and in the news.  Most people know very little about economics.  When you know economics, you will be smarter than most people about a very important topic.  Being smart is a good idea.  That’s why you are at the UI.

Skills learned in economics study support any university major.  After studying economics you will understand world events better.  Your ability to think critically and analytically will be improved.  In economics you can learn some of the most important research skills in business and the social sciences.

An economics major opens many doors:
bulletPreparation for a career in business
bulletPreparation for law school
bulletPreparation for careers in government and public administration
bulletPreparation for graduate school in many disciplines
