Double Majors
Many Finance majors
also majors in a second business discipline in the CBE (i.e.,
Accounting, Economics, HRM, Marketing, MIS, and POM).
We have designed the program of study in Finance to
facilitate a second major, particularly in Accounting and
Economics. CBE
students will find that they can add a second major in Accounting
or Economics by extending their program of study by only one
semester if they plan ahead.
Financial Management Association (FMA)
The FMA is a club that is dedicated to
furthering finance education beyond the classroom.
One of the primary goals of the club is to provide
opportunities for students to interact with professionals in
corporate finance and from the financial services industry.
The club typically takes a trip each semester for on-site
company visits, and also involves finance professionals in club
events closer to campus. Students
from all majors are invited to join the FMA.
The club website is located at:
http://www.uidaho.edu/clubs/fma,
and provides more information on joining the club and upcoming
events.
Real Money in the Finance Curriculum
At the CBE, students
have two opportunities for experiential learning in Finance. The first one is the A.D.
and J.E. Davis Student Investment Program (more popularly
referred to as the Davis Program.)
The Davis Program provides fifteen selected students an
opportunity to hone on their decision-making skills within the
context of managing a live investment portfolio.
Students from all majors are invited to apply for positions
in the Davis Student Investment Program.
For additional information, check the Davis Program website
(www.uidaho.edu/~davisgrp),
or contact Professor Mario Reyes.
The second
experiential learning opportunity is the D.A.
Davidson Student Investment Program (Davidson Program).
The Davidson Program is an integral component of a
two-course sequence consisting of Bus 408 Security Analysis in the
fall semester and Bus 405 Portfolio Management in the Spring
semester. Students
enrolled in these classes will be able to apply the knowledge they
have learned by investing the $50,000 funds provided by D.A.
Davidson.
